Where To Be A Travel Nurse This Winter
Winter is coming, and so is your next winter travel nurse assignment. Why not try something new? This is a good time to ask yourself: Am I a snowbird or a snow bunny? If you don’t know, this could be the time to go somewhere with a climate you’ve never tried before. If you do already know, then you know what to do. Here are some hot—and cool—spots for you to check out this winter.
When You’re Cool
So you’re a snow bunny. Then hit the slopes during your off time.
Colorado (Current pay rates $35-$56.50/hour)
Ever wanted to ski or snowboard in Estes Park, Breckenridge, or Vail? This is your chance. Head to the Centennial State and experience some of the best ski areas in the country—most of them are within a day’s drive from Denver. Be ready to enjoy cold mornings and plenty of snow, as well as picturesque landscapes, art, and colorful western culture.
Utah (Current pay rates $36.50-$49/hour)
The mountains are covered in powdery snow that beckons you to the slopes. You probably already want to check the snow report and get to all the great festivals: Sundance, EVE WinterFest, and the Festival of Trees, to name a few.
Nevada (Current pay rates $36-$55/hour)
Head to Reno to enjoy a variety of venues: Music, casinos, cafés, and art galleries. Then hit Mt. Rose and experience 1200 snow-covered mountainous acres. And when you aren’t hitting the slopes, glide down to Lake Tahoe for the day.
If You’re Hot
You want to beat the chill and stay in the sun. Pack your sunglasses.
Texas (Current pay rates $33-$61.75/hour)
Whether you’re in Houston, Austin, Dallas, El Paso, or San Antonio, you’ll love how warm it is here. We’re talking 65-72°. This means you can get outside year round and live as you would any other time of the year. Take a walk on the beach. Go to the Fort Worth Zoo. Take in San Antonio’s river walk. Enjoy the many great festivals in Austin.
Florida (Current pay rates $33-$48.50/hour)
You’re a traditional snowbird, so Florida is for you. The tropical climate and warm winter is just what you ordered. Make your way to Miami. Park yourself in Pensacola or St. Petersburg. If you’re into Disney, then you know Orlando is calling your name, especially when the lines are as short as they are in winter.
California (Current pay rates $37-$73.50/hour)
If you like the heat, go south to Los Angeles or the pristine beaches of San Diego. If you’re looking for a more temperate place or weekends in wine country, then the San Francisco region is where you want to be.
If You’re Not Sure or You Like Both
You can have the best of everything. Bring layers.
New Mexico (Current pay rates $36-$54.50/hour)
You’re probably thinking, New Mexico? Isn’t it warm there year round? Well, it is in some places. But there are also some fantastic ski resorts. Yes, you can enjoy the warmth of the winter sun and hit the slopes in the same state.
If You Love the Holiday Season
There’s nothing like the city dressed in lights.
New York (Current pay rates $38-$83)
The chestnuts are really roasting on open fires…on the street corners. You’ve always wanted to skate under the tree at Rockefeller Center, or maybe you just want to do it again. Check out the famous store windows—the hustle and bustle is real when you’re shopping. Maybe even invite some friends and family to join you in the city for the holiday.
